The race

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The Elstone Road bridge over the race is behind (fenced) with a limestone arched culvert supporting the roadway and in front is a concrete overbye which carried run-off from the road uphill out of shot right and a small ephemeral creek, when it rained, over the race.

This was the standard (or often just a three-sided wooden overbye) to ensure that water contaminated with farm detritus did not enter the race (in any quantity at least) and in doing so over-top the race.
