Hmm I'm struggling to see how it's unbalanced... it's got quite a lot of symmetry and the scale of it is limited by the techniques available at the time. If you said it was overly ornate, that's possible but it's consistent with anything pre-mass produced era where intricate detail is called on to reflect wealth. I suppose it's the WAG palace of its time :)

You've done us proud in getting an idea of the place, but from whatever angle, it's archiect should be shot.
That's a bit unkind, it is Elizabethan English Heritage link well worth a visit if you are interested in such things.
