The Ortega Highway (California State Route 74) is a vital artery between Riverside County and Orange County through the Elsinore Range of the Santa Ana Mountains. Closure of this two lane highway causes a detour of numerous miles/kilometers. It is a beautiful scenic highway popular on weekends with both motorcyclists and motorists alike. It also provides access to hiking, camping and other recreational activities in the central region of the Trabuco Ranger District in the Cleveland National Forest. This highway is also notorious for numerous fatal accidents, so if you are driving here, please exercise caution.
