Historischer Meilenstein. Ein seltener Zeuge aus der Zeit Napoleons. Für die Soldaten wurden die Distanzen in Marschstunden angegeben (hier: 2 Stunden von Bern).

Historic milestone. A rare time witness of the Napoleon period. For the soldiers the distances where measured in walking hours (here: 2 hours walk from Bern).

if you see 2 in a row, you (should) feel cheated... ;-)

Hm ... I don't know exactly what you mean ... or I didn't got the punchline of your joke. ;-)

sorry for being cryptic ...

you have a second photo of a Meilenstein with the same distance (II) inscribed located, apparently, elsewhere (further on the road?!?). So I think to myself: If marching soldiers reach the first one they think to themselves "well, just another 2 hours..." if a while later came upon that second milestone (indicating 2 hours to go still) would probably feel resentful (against whoever put up the signs)... :)

This milestones are positioned radial around the city of Bern (maybe also around other cities, I don't know). Now, I found two of them in the distance of 2 marching hours from Bern. But I know of at least another one with the inscription "IV Stunden von Bern", but I was never there yet with my camera to take a picture. I'll do as soon as possible ;-)

So, to make a long story short: You can't find 2 in a row ;-)

...or against whoever was leading them in circles !! :-)
