This is Thruscross reservoir formed by the flooding of the Washburn valley in the mid sixties. It caused the village of West End to be demolished before the waters rose but it still can be seen during droughts when the level drops. It serves as compensation for the three other reservoirs further down the valley supplying Leeds with water.
