Le origini di Ripalimosani, paesino a 7 Km da Campobasso, risalgono a molti secoli fa quando la zona era abitata dalle antiche popolazioni Un’antica tradizione narra che, dopo la distruzione di Tiferno, a causa di un violento terremoto, i cittadini della stessa si rifugiarono a Limosano, paese confinante. In seguito, con l'aiuto degli abitanti di quest'ultima, venne riedificato il paese natio e in riconoscenza del popolo Limosanese, al nuovo nome del paese, "Ripa", aggiunsero quello di Limosano. Certo è che il secondo nome fu dato assai dopo la sua fondazione per distinguerla da altra Ripa (Ripabottoni) esistente nello stesso Contado, non a caso, i coltissimi Riccardo s’intitolavano semplicemente Marchesi di Ripa.
