we had a few wonderful sunsets a few days back, and this was the best - the colours really were that vibrant

Suzi - that must be a wonderful sight - I 'hope you've taken photos!! - the truth about these is more prosaic, I fear I think they are gull returning to roost for the night on the landfill garbage tip, but hey!, they make nice shapes in the sky :)

I'm quite sure the birds in your image are geese (Brandts perhaps), or ducks, due to the formation. Gulls we see are totally erratic in behavior. Nice getting to know you :O)
