Taken on Oct 15, 2009 - quite early for a snow here.
Looks like an early winter all round. There's already snow on the ski runs in the Alps too. 'Kildeer'si a weird name for a wader. Where did that come from? If I's seen one of those in the distance I would have guessed (incorrectly) that it was a Ringed Plover - common in the UK.

I think the name comes from the sound of their cry. I googled your Ringed Plover, and they are certainly closely related - must have snuck across the pond from UK!
Lovely natural history shot of these 'Sandpipers'. The dull white foreground and grey background harmonise quite perfectly with their plumage. Well done! Herb
