This is the reason why history is so important Theolfa, because to understand what happened here, explains why we are in such a terrible mess today!!
When I observe such awesome fortifications, presumably built to fend off invaders intent on harming the bishop, I am left to conclude that religion is, and always has been, at the root of all wars!! You don't hear of many agnostics declaring war in the world!!
Ah well, its all part of lifes rich tapestry, our heritage and our raison d'etre!!
I totally agree, Jim, religion is the root cause of most wars.
Hi, Valentine! Thank you! And thanks for visiting my gallery. Greetings from Canada! _Theolfa-
Thanks, Mario! Did you notice the moat? this is also a very ancient piece of architecture, from around the 12th century, but now you can celebrate your wedding there with a great feast (for a price!) or book your Christmas dinner. Cheers! Theolfa
Hello Theolfa. Great shot of these old buildings.Very nice to see them. Best Regards,*David
I suppose they have to pay for upkeep in some way. Whatever, I am glad you homeland preserves it's heritage so well. Thanks for showing us this lovely old building!
Absolutely right JF! The oldest building in Regina is the RCMP chapel built in 1883, only 125 years ago. So it's a real treat to see buildings from centuries ago. Theolfa
Hi, David, I'm glad you saw them, because Australia is like Canada in that some parts of it have no beautiful ancient buildings. Cheers! Theolfa
I love history and historical photos, Theolfa! I had to zoom in to notice that lovely ditch around the palace. :) cheers, archrodney!
That lovely ditch is a moat, Archrodney and surrounded castles to prevent intruders from getting in. Because of the 'bathroom facilities' in those days, they usually stank ;D Theolfa
Thank you for the information Theolfa! :) I didn't know that word. cheers, archrodney!
It's not a word one would use every day, Archrodney, but I know you like to perfect your English vocabulary :D
I'm glad it seems like that, Theolfa! :) Actually, I've already learned a lot from your comments... cheers, archrodney!
