'They say that the most ancient city was founded here by Parnassos, who is the son of the nymph Cleodora. And his fathers are, such as with the other heroes having two fathers, the god Poseidon and the mortal Cleopompos...And the city being flooded during the heavy rains of Deucalion, the inhabitants that escaped the cataclysm were led by the howls of wolves to safety to the top of Parnassos where they founded the city Lycoreia....Another and different legend is current that Apollo had a son Lycoros by the nymph Corykia and that after Lycoros the city of Lycoreia and after the nymph the cave Corykia were named. It is also said that the city was named after Delphos, the son of Apollo and the nymph Iamos... Afterwards the dwellers around called the city Pytho as well as Delphi just as homer so calls it in the list of the Phocians.'From Pausanias' Description of Greece. Phocis, Ozolian Locri. 6:1-4.
