Hello Gerard,

I have some questions about the First Prize of the Symmetry category in Panoramio Contest of March 2012.

1.Why fake symmetry and fake panorama picture that has been used Mirror Image Effect in Photoshop, is the winner in the contest category Symmetry? I am not against Photoshop, this is a great tool for photographers, but when the contest category is Symmetry and you use Mirror Image Effect In Photoshop, I think this is not fair at all.

2.Why a picture that has been used Mirror Image Effect in Photoshop and a picture with low quality (please enlarge to see the quality)has been selected for Google Earth.

3.Why on the March 2012 - Geotagged Photo ContestWinners page the First Prize photo 4 times more area than the Second Prize photo http://www.panoramio.coice_age69g/ggm/photo/68081995.I am not saying that the Second Prize is a high quality photo, but least it is not a fake Symmetry photo. I know all images have different Width and Height and it is not easy to decide how to render them on the web page, but I think it will be better, if the First and Second Prize photos to have similar areas on the Geotagged Photo Contest Winners page.

Thank you,

Hi Ivan. the contest winners are decided by user votes, so if the whole user community decides a photo is symmetry... it is symmetry ;) Regarding the photo composition, it is due to the aspect ratio of the images. We can not change it following the current implementation, but we will keep it in mind for future changes.

Hi Gerard,

Thank you very much for your quick response. I completely agree with you that the contest winners should be decided by the user votes.

But it will be better, each month when the voting ends, a jury from Panoramio Team to decide if the winners in particular category match the criteria in that category.

For example the following photo is in the current contest in category Green. I know there is very low chance this picture to win in category Green, but if this happens, it will be very funny.

I don’t have anything against this guy, but I cannot find any Green in his picture

I have an idea what can be done in order to improve the quality of the voting without changing the voting logic. If you can increase the size (close to the full screen) of the main image and the 10 thumbnails on the voting page, this will be great.

By increasing the size of the voting image and the 10 thumbnails, the user will have a chance to recognize which picture has better quality, and what exactly is the quality of the voting image. I am sure most of the users vote directly from the voting page without going to see the real image, so now, they can vote for picture with low quality and can miss some high quality pictures, because the current voting page does not provide enough information of the real image.

Thank you,
