In November 2007, Bangladesh was hit by the Cyclone SIDR, reported to be the worst cyclone since 1991. It developed over the Bay of Bengal and made landfall on 15 November 2007 in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. It brought winds of up to 250 Km/hr and associated tidal surges. These tidal surges penetrated deep and extensively inland, compounding the already existing problems from seasonal flooding
