This picture captures 2 monuments, marking at least 2 historic episodes in Suriname: The one in front is situated at Spanhoek and is the State Monument dating back to 1966, with 5 standard bearers symbolising the carriers of the rights and freedoms of the united people of Suriname. It was erected marking 100 years after the first Colonial Assembly in 1866. The Carillon on the background is situated at Vaillantsplein near Spanhoek and was donated by the Dutch Parliament in honour of the Republic's independence in 1975. Thanks for sharing this picture with the world :-)
