Tamaracks or Eastern Larch are the only conifer that shed their leaves & do it in style by turning a deep golden color. They are usually found in swampy or very damp areas.

Thanks Teri! No sooner I had put this one up than I wished I had cropped it tighter to show the tamaracks off better. So I am glad to see someone looked at it. :)

They're beautiful, JF! Do they stay that lovely golden colour all through winter? Theolfa

Margot I feel better now - people looked at it. I was afraid they would not & this is another of those features that jumped out at me as very unique when I moved to this area.

Theolfa I had to look to be sure but they actually do fall off in winter and start the spring out a unique soft green. I will have to keep an eye out for the other stages. Here is a link to the Tamarack that I think you will find of interest!
