Yes - cables are still there, and just as well given the steepness of the rock face. I climbed Half Dome last summer with my son who was 17 at the time. We completed a 20 mile round trip in one day starting at 7 am in the Yosemite valley and returning by 5 pm. Not for the faint hearted - it was strenuous, but my athletic son, completed this with ease.
