On Google Earth I can see this lake is in level 750 m above sea level and that another artificial lake in NW of this with level around 450 m and further down "the river" the level is 350. A dropheight between the two lakes of 300 m is quite a potential for energy production and the next 100 metres add something - do you know if the pump reverse between te lakes in e.g. night time when power is cheap?

Yes, in the night time the sea will be filled I assume and during the day time when more energy is needed the water will fall down and produces energy. You can find such kind of energy facilities all over the mountainous areas in south germany. Most of them are natual (seas with a wall). I was also astonished when I discovered this sea there.
