Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton's grave - South Georgia Island.

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton's grave just south of Grytviken at South Georgia Island.

He died unexpectedly in 1922, and his wife chose Grytviken as his resting place, alongside the whalers who died on the Island.

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was knighted by King Edward VII after his attempt to reach the South Pole (He only missed it by 114 miles or 190 km), but he is best known for Voyage of the James Caird – a trip in a lifeboat – after the loss of of the good ship Endurance - from Elephant Island to South Georgia Island.
