used to fish off the arches 35 years ago. Do anglers still do that?

The dam is still popular with fishermen. I also used to fish there as a kid in the 1950s. As I remember it you weren't officially supposed to fish from the arches even in those days. I bet it's even more likely to be the case today because of those silly poles they use obstructing the footpath.

im 57 and we used to fish off the arches-im talking about 1962 to 1969 now! Loads of people fished from the arches. i was at one end one day catching small roach perch and gudgoen then noticed a pike in the swim and hooked one about 5 pound and had to move rigt along the arches to the other end to land it.! Happy days!!

One of my most vivid memories is of the hot summer when water levels dropped dramatically. I guess it was around 1955. Beyond the arches was bone dry , or so my Dad thought. Crossing the baked and cracked mud he began to sink almost upto his knees. He was lucky to escape. The late fifties were a great time to be a kid. There are a few pics in my album that aren't on Google Earth yet.

Lived in Kirkby, and walked to Carmill to fish, quite a walk along the East Lancs rd. fished from bridge. Remember the power boat races, spoilt the fishing!
