I'll have to get a better camera before Antarctica!

If you are planning to go to Antarctica then it is a very good excuse to upgrade part of your gear. I would recommend a nice long lens to get close to all this wildlife.

Thanks Enrique,
Yeah, I am saving for a big zoom for Africa and Antarctica.
I am presuming that IS would be critical for Antarctica as you are in the boat most of the time.
For an earlier trip to Africa, I found that a 600mm still wasn't enough (even though we were very lucky with animals) so I think buying a great used lens and then reselling after I return would be the best.
By the time I can do both trips, I hope to save $5k-7k for that lens (in 3-5 years :O)

I was using a Nikon 80-400 VR (the most i can afford at the moment) would love to have a 600 f4, though my current dream lens is the Nikon 200-400 f4 VR. Still many years away!
Hope you have fun in Africa & Antarctica
