Ian, I forgot to tell you that the village, the little country you can see in the distance beyond the tiles, it Cervo. You can find it in tags Cervo. Medieval village is a beautiful and very important. Cheers, esseil
I think I can say, I know Italy. But I think I should say, I do not know Italy.
My friend esseil,
Your photos of Cervo have taken me into your life, world and heart. I love then very much. For years I taught geography and Italy was a special area of study in more than one course. I focussed on the Mezzogiorno. And I have enjoyed studying the history of the area, beginning in Roman times.
As for visits to Italy, there have been two. In 1978, with my young family I explored Savona and Torino and Aosta and loved every day and every moment and every place. It was just special. Then later I have been to Rome and flown over Napoli, Potenza and Taranto - a flight that kept me glued to the window and the camera clicking.
Do I know Italy? Here in Australia we are often surrounded by Italians who make their vino, grow apples, grapes, sugar cane and tobacco depending on where they live, and barter in the market. And we love them.
But wouldn't it be incredible should I have another opportunity to visit Italy. Then I might be allowed to say, "I know Italy!"
Dear Ian,It was good to read what I have written, and thank you very much. You can say you need to return to Italy, it's worth it, madness ... I know almost all, I miss Sicily and I hope to go there soon. Rome, Florence, Genoa and Liguria you see I am doing with my picture .. The Italy awaits, it is always to discover! discovered .. Liguria is frequented by many foreigners all year, because the climate is great, if you come there I am here! With love from Italy! esseil
I didn't actually tell you that in 1978, I drove through Cervo. We were following the coastal road from Nice to Savona and so passed through this photo of yours. We loved every minute, every new vista around every bend, all the colour and Mediterranean architecture.
As our vehicle would need a new clutch, we decided to begin our journey home, when we got to Savona, so began a climb over the Appenines and down to Torino. Fortunately we made it back to our base in Britain, and immediately had the clutch replaced, but not without a couple of incidents along the way.
And one day you come back in Italy! The road on the sea up in France is always the same. Beautiful with its curves with the sea that seems to touch it with the colors and smells of the Mediterranean .. I love this street, even if it is also dangerous because it is always close ... But I prefer to travel on this road on the highway. You look and thanks for your memories that you have given me ..Cheers,esseil
