Hello, I have just popped in to see what you have from Carlisle tag. Well impressed I am, most of the pics you have are of old 'play grounds' of mine, I was born 1948 in Brampyon, lived in WArwick Bridge, Longtown, Carlisle (Harraby) before coming ower heor tiv becum a GEORDIE in sivinty fower! Aaam ganna spend the rest of me Sundy efternoon lookin at yer photos!
Incidentally, I have added your considerable gallery to my favourites, hope you have no objections
Mike from GEORDIELAND!
I remember bing brough here when I was very young, aparrently, my Mother used to push th pram here from Warwick Bridge, where I had been born (1948) . she would perambulate me up the road, across the viaduct, through the village, then sit on the riverbank here, to spend some quiet time, while the farm (small-holding) would be working for all to live. I continued to visit this very area from my 13th year, up to my 25th! The memories come flooding back from distant times, not forgotten, but tidied away under others, to keep the safe-amazing how much a photograph and ACCURATE posiioning can mean to a total stranger to your gallery.
Thank you very, very much for this, my Mother would have enjoyed the experience too, but sadly passed a few years ago. I did manage to take her to the old small-holding before she became too infirm, that, I am sure, was the best time she had in many a year. I amgoing for tea now, a ponder, then I shall write some verse for this photograph. till then, take care,
Mike
Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I grew up in Dalston in the 70s and remember visiting the caves at Wetheral on several occasions. Live in Glasgow now, but in summer 07, I'd just bought a new car and thought I'd take it down the motorway to visit some of my old haunts - so the photos are nostalgic for me too.
This one njellis is especially memorable to me, as I first was here in 1949, aged 4or 5 months, that was before I ever could walk or talk!' I continued to go all through my life, right up until the 90's !
Ill health and mobility problems mean that I shall probably not get there again, so your photographs are a very welcome return to the whole area for me!
As I have mentioned, I was born in Warwick |Bridge, just along between school and St.Wilfrid's church, at age 5 we moved to Longtown, age 11 Carlisle (Harraby) where I left to join rR.A.F in '65...returning '67. finally leaving for Newcastle, in '74 (thats sivinty fower fer aal yeez GEORDIES! BTW, I HAVE LOTS OF'TALES'ABOUT THE CAVES...FOR LATER?
sO, THAT'S IT BRIEFLY, EXCEPT THAT i WOULD LOVE TO INCLUDE MY POETIC WORDS ON YOUR PHOTOGRAPH IF i MAY.
oRDINARILY, FOLKS SEEM TO WELCOME MY SCRIBBLINGS, THESE ARE MOR LIKE A PERSONAL HISTORY THAT IS PART OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPH, OR THE SITE WHERE YOU SHOT IT SO VERY WELL ON THAT LOVELY sUMMER DAY, WITH THE WATER LOW IN THE RIVER, THE MIDGES FLITTING ABOUT AND THE DISTANT SOUND OF HAPPY CHILDREN PLAYING AND SPLASHING IN THE POOLS======================i AM RAMBLING THROUGH MY NEMORIES NOW, SO i WILL LEAVE TO ALLOW YOU DECIDE.
Cheers for now, sorry I just noticed cap lock was on, to much to correct now, good job I can edit the poems before printing!!
Catch you later, take care
Mike
The words I promised you I'd send njellis for this photograph of significant meaning to me, Thankyou
Mike
On the West bank of the EDEN Where the road runs out, step onto the grass, move downstream along the river until you see a small island in mid-stream, rest here on the sweet grass and read this…
Below Wetheral parish church, just by the Railway viaduct, listen….you will hear my life.
When I was just a baby, lborn in Warwick Bridge, my Mother would bring me here in the pram,(1948-49)
When I was older, the family came here for picnics and would fish for tiddlers (50's-60's)
When I was a teenager, I used to court a local lass here (1964)
When I joined the services, I often remembered this place ( 1965-67)
When I was in my late teens and twenties, I came to fish here.(70's)
there is more, but it is rather personal, I do not want to post it on opensite
Hi again, njellis, I have some further information about the poetry book I am publishing soon, containing this photograph of yours with the words tat I wrote about my memories...I wonder if you would consider reading the following..
Publishers AUTHOR HOUSE, who are kindly publishing weeBOOK(let) have informed me that before we can proceed with printing, your individual written permission to use your photographs is required. Would you please write on Panoramio to my site or send e.mail to me. fatha@toucansurf.com , giving your permission for your individual photographs to be used in weeBOOK(let) of poems, thank you
I hope this is the final hurdle that weeBOOK has to negotiate before being available to all!
...as an afterthought, if you would prefer not to allow the photograph into publication, I shall understand, but it was one of my first choices to be included in my 'weeBOOK(let)' which will raise money for a local charity, Northumbria Daybreak, who cater for continuing care and education of special needs adults who no longer qualify for local council care. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Mike
