Whinless Down Nature Reserve* is the ridge running across the top of the photo beneath the three electricity pylons spread across the centre third of the photo (ie it isn't on the skyline!).

This view was taken from near the North-Western corner of the Outer Bastion, part of an extensive Napoleonic and Victorian defense system embedded into the Western Heights.

A 1908 map (No. 5 on this old-maps.co.uk link) shows the two sets of tumuli on Whinless Down, but the sites have been levelled and were completely overgrown when I visited the sites a few years ago.

Notes on the following will be added later: Plum Pudding Hill, Lascelles Road, Malmains Road, Church Road, Elms Vale Road,

*From a Kent Downs webpage:

[Located] North of Elms Vale Recreation Ground, Dover

A steeply sloping area of ancient chalk downland on the edge of Dover offering dramatic views over the town, channel and the local countryside. A wide range of chalk grassland flowers, such as rock rose and milkwort can be found, which in turn encourages a wide range of insects such as the blue butterflies. The rare cypress spurge grows in abundance here as does dyers greenweed and squinancywort. You will also find the rare silver spotted skipper butterfly and many rare moth species. There is a tree trail leading from the car park where a wild arboretum of all our native trees and shrubs have been planted.

Also: there are good views of Dover Castle from Whinless Down and the nearest train station is Dover Priory. Whinless Down Nature Reserve is managed by the White Cliffs Countryside Project.
