Amazing colourings and patterns, he is just the cutest little duck, they dont look real.
I think you should have dived into the water to grab him and take him home, Bits.
I think it's a boy.
Yep the males have the colour how did i get grey?
Thanks Dianne, who, Cal, and steve! Yup, this is one of those Flamboyant Males! Who, I'd have loved to have even gotten within a couple of feet of him, never mind take him home! The goal of hte next few months is to try to get a closer more detailed pic....
Easy. Get one of these. :)
LOLOL - Only used once??? Wonder if he fell over and broke his back trying to lug that around. Or else he just bought it, and then his wife found the receipt, ha-ha!
But yup, that does seem to be the only way to get a really detailed shot of one of these guys. You check out the top result when you google 'canon hooded merganser' ? Must have been a lens like that one. (or more directly 'hooded merganser with baby bullhead') though now I see the guy lists an 800 in his bag of tricks, so maybe it was that one.
Thanks Laurel! Still a long way to go, but I've got many GBs of attempts at shots of these where they're just little specks with a big white blob. So I was pretty thrilled to catch this.
Very nice capture of this Hooded Merganser
It is such a beautiful bird, I have seen one before, but it has been a while. I need to get out and do some more birding. Now is a great time of the year!
Hi Kyle - Thanks very much! They're gorgeous little birds, but they move so fast and stay so far from people they sure are a challenge. They aren't around here much of the year, but one or two small flocks seem to arrive on a few local ponds in November, and stay around until the ponds freeze. LOL, so they sure provide a challenging game of 'Who can catch the closest hoodie shot?' while they're here.
