The Monument on Island of Daksa to the war crime victims of 1944. (20-03-2010.)
The monument was erected by the families of the war crime victims of a massacre committed by the communists in October 1944. Among more than 52 dead were 8-10 priests together with prominent leaders of the political parties which opposed the communist’s totalitarian regime, including the Mayor of Dubrovnik and other leading citizens among the dead.
All the victims were taken to the Island of Daksa without a trial and executed and buried in Mass Graves which were uncoverd in 1991 after the independence of Croatia.
