It definitely creates mixed feelings to realize that the "sunset" is seen through the lens of smoke from peoples' homes burning! This is the Angora fire near South Lake Tahoe, California. With much of California receiving only 15-20% of normal rain or snowfall, the fire season is off to an unusually early and unusually damaging start. If global climate change continues as forecast, these sorts of conditions may become much more common in the future, endangering tens of thousands of homes in the area.
