St. Hyacinth parish was split from St. Stanlislaus and the church and school complex was built in 1883. The parish founder was the Franciscan priest Hyacinth Gulski. The school if built of the characterstic Milwaukee light yellow brick known as Cream City brick.

St. Hyacinth, a Polish saint, is well known in Spanish-speaking countries as San Jacinto, and this parish, like others in south Milwaukee, has seen a transformation of its congregation from Polish to Latino/Hispanic in recent years.
