Captain Noel Chavasse was Medical Officer of the 10th (Liverpool Scottish) Battalion, the King's (Liverpool) Regiment, during the first three years of the Great War. He was the only man to win the British Empires highest award for valour, the Victoria Cross, twice during WW I. Only two other men have achieved this honour, Captain Arthur Martin-Leake RAMC 1901 & 1915 and Captain Charles Upham, New Zealander serving with 20th Bn, 2nd NZEF (The Canterbury Regiment) who won his first VC 1941 and his second in 1942
