I lived at Wynne Street nearby and remember this as The Washington. I went to school at St Patricks which unfortunately was destroyed by fire in the 70's. Any other photo's of this area would be very welcome.

Thankyou for this picture. I traced my Great aunt and uncle Edward and Katie Devanny nee Degnan to 64 Longcroft Place and have no doubt that this was a favourite alehouse. I also appreciated the reference to St. Patrick's school by MariaJ57 and assume that there is a St. Patrick's Church and this is where I may make further progress with baptisms and deaths. Does anyone have an email address for this church? Ann webster

Des would you mind if I could upload this picture onto my family tree?

Hello Ann. St Patrick's church is very near but has no email address to my knowledge. The address is: The Presbytery, 1 Sedgefield Terrace, Bradford, BD1 2RU. Telephone: (UK) 01274 724941. What year are you looking at for your family tree. I lived in the area from 1954-1961 after which most of the houses were demolished. A whole community was destroyed! The Washington was certainly a popular pub in the 50's. The area is steeped in Irish Catholic history and Devanny sound Irish to me. Good Luck! Maria

There's a lot more to your gallery than the first page Des ;>)

This is such a brilliant image..It reminds me of that weird pub in the TV series "Two pints of Lager" etc. except that this one looks almost abandoned..a bit dodgy perhaps??

I would not be at all surprised if this is just a pile of rubble now ;>)

Best wishes!

jim
