You have the most amazing photos. Each a work of art, the next more beautiful than the previous. Thank you for sharing with all of us. I did look at your link and now I have to go to upper Michigan in the winter. Congratulations again, just awe inspiring. Sharon in California

If you're serious about visiting Michigan in the winter feel free to shoot me an email for some advice, there are many things to consider such as winter driving, unplowed roads, and seasonal conditions.

I agree with shaeurpb, your photos make me want to visit the U.P. during the winter. I've lived in Michigan 10 years, and have visited Munising twice in summer. What could I expect to be able to see from within a short hike of a warm 4x4 SUV? We would have a 6-year-old along. Can we even get out to Miners Castle?

The winter beauty is breathtaking. I know my camera would love it ... !

Unfortunately, Pictured Rocks is not a very family friendly park in the winter because they do not plow many of the roads.

The shortest route to Miners Castle in the winter would be to ski in on the unplowed Miners Castle Road which would be about 7 miles round trip.

There are several (frozen) waterfalls you can check out without having to hike too far, such as Munising Falls, Wagner Falls, MNA Memorial Falls, and Alger Falls. Some of these can still be hard to reach in the winter if they have a lot of snow and no one else has packed down the trail.

I have been working on a guide here: My Guide to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

The snowflakes on the map show where the plowing ends in the winter.

Thank you for your advice. And your guide was worth a bookmark!

We as a family have been talking about trying out snowshoeing. Perhaps we'll work on that goal this winter and try out our skills next season in the U.P.
