The nursery stock industry of Zhongshan, with the concerted efforts of local governments at various levels, has progressed rapidly and made Zhongshan into one of the biggest distributing center of flowers and trees in South China with a planting area of over 5300 hectares and a yearly output of more than one billion yuan. At the early 1990s, Zhongshan government began to recommend a massive development of nursery stock. Since the middle and later periods of 1990s, the planting area of nursery stock has expanded at the speed of about 300 hectares per year. Now a nursery stock base of certain scale and influence has been formed respectively in Guzhen, Xiaolan, Dongsheng, Henglan and Minzhong.
