On the occasions that I have crossed the mountains between Palu and Parigi, Sulawesi Tengah, we have stopped here beside the Teluk Tomini for a meal. Always it is a fish meal, and whether served in the Christian restaurant or the Muslim restaurant which are on either side of the highway, the meal and the hospitality were wonderful. Central to both Islam and Christianity is the giving of hospitality - the welcoming of the stranger. So it is also a deep sadness to me and to the local people that identity-based conflict was provoked in the region, both in Palu and Poso, during recent years. So much hostility and devastation - so much dislocation! But there are many who are working for reconciliation and forgiveness.

Thanks for your appreciative comment, v-k. I don't know whether you noticed that the current accompanying GE image has pink layer across it, perhaps faulty imagery or maybe the result of a volcanic ash cloud. It is the volcanic dust from volcanoes in the region (including Phillipines) that is adding the colour to my photo.
Warm greetings,
Ian

I thought it was an amazing evening, too Ingrid. My greater joy was just to be there, for I had never imagined this possibility. A big hug of gratitude.
