Hello Jim! How are you? As I see the snow coninues... ;))

Jim Evans (AXOTA) on February 5, 2010

The high moors are snow clad and will remain so along the hedgerows for some time ;>) The outlook is for a steady rise in temperatures..with a promise of spring in the air...already the hardy Snow Drops are piercing the soil with their fresh green shoots...and the Gladiator has lost his waistcoat...Locally, the snow at sea level has gone and the weather is GLOOMY

2c...greetings Hugh...always a pleasure to read your excellent comments ;>)

makis-GREECE 4~~~~Thanks Makis...you are most welcome.. your stratospheric shot is outstanding..

Silvyp----a most enjoyable interlude Silvy..I like all those versions, but I have fond memories of Dean;>) He and Jerry Louis were hilarious comedy partners!!

Bibiana Papp~~~~~Delighted to see you again Bibiana...thanks for dropping in ;>)

Kind regards to you all

Beautiful composition indeed Jim, and also the colours are great. Global warming comes to Whitby? It seems to me the gladiator is fighting the global warming successfully. In any case he did not leave his carbon footprints in the snow.

Best regards, Claus

Mircea Moldovan on February 9, 2010

Snow and sword.. Nice capture! Regards, Mircea.

michel chanaud on February 11, 2010

Nice shot Jim. I was surprised to have not seen this statue but your explanation give me the light ! Against who is he fighting nude and alone in the cold ??

Cordial greetings. Michel

Jim Evans (AXOTA) on February 11, 2010

scotty03...it was my pleasure..I'm happy you like this photo ;>)

c.s.~~~~greetings Claus...always a thoughtful and humorous reply my friend...it's a pleasure to see you ;>)

mirceamoldovan----It is interesting how the mythical Greek warriors, naked yet fearless, are portrayed at war with little armour or clothing..simply a shield and sword...perhaps he knew not of the snow ;>)

Michel Chanuad...Such a nice surprise to read your interesting feedback Michel..I know that you have fond memories of your visit to this region ;>) He was trying to ward off the approaching Arctic weather Michel...Alas, in this task, he failed miserably...we have snow on the ground as I write ;>)

Kind regards to you all ;>)

Thanks for the explanation Jim - why is the statue set to cause a buzz and where is the shield?

I bet the old statue got melted down for scrap like the Shanghai Call Girl

I hope you get some good weather soon, all the best from North Carolina

Pom' on February 12, 2010

excellent, dear Jim ! voted "best of".

warm regards, pom'

Jim Evans (AXOTA) on February 13, 2010

Jethrohoyt...that's a pity about the call girl she's having a hard time..

I have no doubt that the local brigade of single cell, no hoper's, with a penchant for wanton destruction, will be ravaging the poor gladiator soon...The UK boasts the highest deployment of CCTV anywhere on earth...I suppose this would create many difficulties in China because they all look alike ;>) No! No! that's not fair ;>)

It's always a pleasure to welcome you to these shores dear Pom...that your generous compliment is without doubt gratefully appreciated..

Sincere wishes ..Jim

László Pazár on February 13, 2010

Perfect!

(Thank you very much for explanation!)

Greetings from Hungary, Laslo

Sterntaucher on February 25, 2010

Hallo Jim,

a nice winter-shot and interesting comment! :-)

I hope it won't be too cold for him in the snow without any clothes...

I haven't been online that often during the last months and will try a comeback, hahaha... Hope you are fine there in England!?

Best wishes from Munich, Mathias

Jim Evans (AXOTA) on March 9, 2010

dr.Pazár László..you are most welcome Laslo ;>)I thought the 'Gladiator' deserved an explanation!

Sterntaucher...It's good to see you once more Mathias..no problems..I often go off line for weeks... and come back feeling refreshed..As for winter, I'm thinking that spring is just around the corner..the snow has all gone..temperatures are slowly rising as each day grows that little bit longer...it's good to be alive Mathias ;.)

Warm regards to you both ;>)
