Delightfully situated town - and what a great view! Looks like a great trip.

Cheers.

You're right Ansel, one of the most spectacular places I've been to. If I had a photo from the opposite ridge, we could see that the village ends in a sheer 600 metres drop to a river (almost seen on the right of this photo). On the other side of the river would be a plus 3000 metres high wall of Kongde Ri (aka Kwangde). I could hear the rumble of avalanches and rocks from Kongde Ri to the lodge I was staying. I think Namche is a bigger place these days. Maybe I'll go and see it myself sometime again.

While I was there, I had the same program with a certain group which was led by Tashi Tenzing, the grandson of the famous sherpa Tenzing Norgay (he was the first to climb Everest in 1953 with Edmund Hillary...) He was a nice guy (later summited Everest twice) and the last time I met him was here in Namche.

Incredible shot of Namche Bazar as a lot of others of your Nepal pics too!
I've been in Nepal on Oct./Nov. 2002 and 2008 (see my pics), but in Annapurna region. When was your trip? Unfortunately the EXIF datas aren't unreadable.

Juha Rimpiläinen on January 8, 2010

Thanks ©polytropos for your visit and nice comments! I did this trip in 1998 and these are scanned from slides so the EXIF data is missing.

I also did Annapurna Circuit in 2001 and have some photos from there. I will definitely check your photos too, AC is always interesting, though nowadays already history (a road has been built both on Marsyangdi and Kali Gandaki side).

Yes, the road is built. Maybe an advantage for the natives, but as a hiker you always have to gulp the dust of the overtaking jeeps, which isn't that exciting ...
