Is that when you were there?

Hurricane Ike hit Galveston on September 13, 2008. At least 5 people died in Galveston from Ike. There may have been more but that is the only figures I could find online. This photo was taken shortly after the anniversary celebration.

We were there on the 18th - arrived in the wee hours of the morning and left around noonish.

Great shot, JF. I remember seeing photos and videos of the horrific devastation Ike left behind. Reminders of my days growing up in South Louisiana and Hurricanes Audrey, Carla, Hilda, Betsy, Camille, etc.

Greetings, Leo

Thanks Maric! It was very poignant to read how Ike had disrupted so many lives and tributes to loved ones.

Thank Leo! My daughters roommates were from Houston last year and I remember them all being worried about their families and having very little contact with them but even then I did not realize just how bad Ike was. As for the others you mentioned I remember Camille as a friend in college had just spent the day at their beach house mowing the lawn and the next day Camille hit and all they had left was a concrete slab. Amazing power and destruction in those storms.

You are welcome Majid! I wanted to put it on Pano as even I did not realize the extent of the damage Ike did. My daughter was in Texas at the time and had roommates from Houston but still I did not realize the destructive toll Ike took on Galveston.

I took photo of this monument but it looks completly different. No fence or mementos!
