...hardest one to earn meaning a tough climb I suppose? I checked it at wikipedia, it is a remarkable rock, and very steep. How did you get to the top? Breathtaking view indeed! Jeroen

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. This is a popular place for rock climbers but you won't find me hanging from the face of a cliff!! This was my "new year's day hike" (although I had to wait until January 2nd). Look at where the photo is mapped to. From that point, look diagonally down to the right (or south east) and you'll notice how the rock slants downward. The trail switch-backs all the way to the top. here is a link that shows the trail in PDF

I see, the red line is indeed taking the least difficult route, but it still doesn't look easy. I went to the Alps in Austria last summer (and this summer we'll go again) but we're taking the 'beginners' routes (three kids are a nice excuse).

I understand your point. If your three kids will go along on a hike, or just a walk through the park, your are a blessed man. I have three daughters (ages 19, 15, and 11) and none of them are the least bit interested in any outdoor activity!

I have a daugther who's almost 18, a son of 15, and a daughter of 12. I was very surprised they loved Austria, and wanted to come on some mountain trips.

(I saw your photo, you didn't look old enough to have a 19-year old kid. You must be an early starter om many things...;))

Ah, our three children are practically the same ages. And yes, I was very young when I got started. The oldest just turned 19 in January. I truthfully had not planned it that way but looking back, I'm glad everything happened the way it did. I'll be 38 in June of this year.

Well, I'm more of a slow starter, as you might have guessed from this photo's title. I passed the dreaded mile stone last month. The good news: my family is saving up to buy me a new camera!

Well, Happy (belated) Birthday!

Congratulations on the prospects of a new camera! I would love to own a proper DSLR but maybe sometime in the future ...
