Another smasher.

Hey Andrew, I had a look at your gallery - you seem to like all things architecture - is that what appealed to you about this one?
Andrew Royle, on July 17, 2007, said:
Not so much the architecture here as the lyricism that exists between the lines and the shadows. This shot reveals only a little bit about the overall architecture of the buildings - not that that detracts at all from the overall impact of course.
The shadow of the pillar right in the middle is a critical factor I think, it adds a vital element of realism.

Aah, I better understand. It was the style of the house fronts with their pastel magnolia colours and the striking shadows, all repeating and diminishing.. and then the cheeky blue.
I put some effort into the framing to get the tops of the pillars lined up and at the same time doing what I wanted with the rest of the composition.
Glad you liked it :) Cheers!

Yes it's a great shot. On that note, watch for my "car doors" shot in the next few days. It's not totally out of context with what you have aspired to in this shot. I'm taking my time adding new shots to my lot as identifying exact localities on an overlay of Tokyo and relying on a 2 year recollection of events is not easy. But I am trying to get the localities exactly right wherever possible. Anyway, you might find it interesting. Chow!

Yeah, know what you mean, Andrew. I can't remember for the life of me whether I took my 'Emotional Blackrail' in Klaipeda or Palanga (Lithuania), let alone which street!
On placement... when I'm not too sure of placement, I find it easier to fire up google earth and use its better search facilities. Then, when I've found the spot, that's when I finish the placement in Panoramio.
Cheers :)

Ironically enough, I only found Panoramio - or started to take it seriously at least - through Google Earth. About 3 weeks ago I was using it for something else when I stumbled upon Chris Jongkind's images using same.
I then decided "Well if there is at least one photographer whose works are worth looking at on Panoramio then I might be a good thing and worth getting in to".
So with a bit more perusal I then find another, then another, then...

...and I'm about two weks ahead of you. I was looking two things which came together... one was for a way of getting my photos on google earth and the other was how to geotag them in the first place. Flickr was my first stop (fairly easy geotagging) followed by panoramio. Bingo!
I'm also trying google's picassa but it's a poor second best to panoramio, imho.
Cheers :)

Yes I like Panoramio but it seems like it's still a bit buggy to me, like for instance the 'times viewed' counter should not increment if all you are doing is going forward a page then back again on your browser.
By the way have you tried using the actual time recorded when you took the image of 'Emotional Blackmail' to track down its exact location? You will have this information if you saved the images from your camera directly onto a disk. It's very helpful if images taken at about the same time as the one in question are readily identifiable as to their exact location and hence allow you to identify the geographic location of the difficult one by interpolation or extrapolation. -AR.

Opps. I meant BlackRail.

Hey Andrew, yes unfortunately on that day we went all over the place, it's all a bit of a blur ... I'm hoping my guide will help me out if I pass on date & time. Or maybe it will remain one of life's little mysteries, lol :D
