The house in the picture has been completely refurbished by a local businessman as a family home after the previous owner (a professor of some sort) moved out years ago and left it to rot. It is now one of the most beautiful houses along the entire canal.

Prior to the professor, the cottage was owned by the canal company, and the tenant - as part of his duties - had to open and close the nearby bascule bridge (Cadder Bridge) to allow boats to pass through the navigation. Sadly the refurbished house looks nothing like the original and much of the charm of this setting has been lost as a result.
