With the gates open at 3.5 feet, 3.500 cu ft of water per second flowed downstream I used to work the hydro at Aratiatia, opening the gates and swim the rapids (when the gates were closed. Summer water temp 24C, winter 14C. These temperatures were because of the cooling water entering the Waikato at Wairakei, less than 2 miles upstream. Also we would jump off the bridge down the other end of the rapids
