if the busybody old people just let the developers get on with the work we would have a focal point for the town. Stop wasting time trying to get it back to what it was, it was good in its day but its not what tourists really want anymore

For a start I am certainly not old but am quite happy to be called a busybody, I like to be busy! I merely point out that the areas in the photos are a discgrace. I agree that work should proceed instead of years of costly and pointless discussion. I obviously have an opinion about what should be done as I am sure everyone has. I just wish that there had been a simple public vote with one option being to just replace like for like. That would have been the most democratic way to proceed and we might already have a replacement. Does anyone on the council care what the tourists or anyone else actually want? I would suggest not, if the lightstick and onion are anything to go by.

It is a disgrace that this building has been left unused for nearly ten years, it is a disgrace that local people have been without anywhere decent to swim in that time, and that the local authority seems to think it needs to overdevelop, rather than just have a swimming pool. Good picture, by the way!

Hi Farmborough,

I totally agree. Isn't it amazing that although there was a petition with 20000 or more signatures against the proposed development the planners and council think that they know better! The unfortunate thing is that they will never be held accountable when this huge eyesore is built. I can only hope that they all lose their jobs when we can vote them out. Just look at beautiful Brighton and how chic and trendy it is. Weston is a place to visit to laugh at the hotch potch of bizarre planing decisions and edifices. There is NO chic in Weston at all!

Brighton has its eyesores too. Sadly, it is the same story up and down the country, with local authorities abandoning swimming pools (especially pre-war ones) in favour of big revenue raisers. I am glad the people of W~S~M have made their feelings known, let's hope the council will (eventually) listen!

sorry i dont agree with ROME0123 , we dont need any more ab fab buildings, shops,or cinema . Give Weston the edge .... let us have something that other towns do not have....simplicity,functional and useful for all ages , update the Tropicana... to be used all year round , pool with retractable roof doubling to skating park ? maybe some function rooms for hire, some classes available..... or even cater for alternative health therapies etc . We Weston folk are not complicated. Its a shame that Weeston council are not prepared to take our needs and ideas into consideration . The dedicated work that (sorry dont know his name) put into getting thousands of names on the petition, and still we are not heard . Councillors .... take your fingers out of your ears .... we must be heard, for the benefit of all.
