Well, I found Mr. Wood Duck with his new girlfriend...It's pretty adorable because he and Ms. Mallard are an inseparable couple, waddling along together.

Yeah, it's all just cozy pin feathers now, but wait until Mrs. Wood Duck shows up with the shot gun, and suddenly it's Duck Season.

He tried sooo hard to live up to the expectations of his parents, but in the end, true love won out. :D Of course, he could be an innocent victim of mistaken identity, and isn't the daddy of all those babies. All those Wood Duck boys do look so similar....

They'll never last. She's obviously out of his league. Amazon ducks just don't stick around with the short sassy types too long.

What a lovely little story Bits and I just love the photo.

Great picture Bits; Woody and his concubine.

Laurel211 on January 19, 2010

...and what a lovely couple they make!

geomanncer on January 19, 2010

What a handsome couple they make, and him in all his finery!!

One of these guys visited our local bird sanctuary some few years ago, and he tried to make it happen with the mallards. They weren't amused!!

ahhh, I disagree not1word and Guy. Haven't you ever seen those dapper men squiring beautiful models around? She's found someone above her league! This fellow is no common mallard. He's a Dapper Duck, and he dotes on her! And she on him.

Thanks to you both, though, and Thanks Dianne, Laurel, geomancer, and Steve! I'd gone to the pond they're at looking for a different unusual duck who thinks he's a mallard, and it took me a while to realize what I was seeing.

I need to get a video of the two of them. There's chaos all around them with all of the mallards scrambling all over themselves and flying over to see if the Human has food, and these two calmly waddle over side by side, peck around at left over food that was already there, look at each other, touch beaks, and turn around and waddle back side by side to the pond. O< >O

I'm laughing, Bits. I first read that as diaper men, and yes, I have seen those old guys with the trophy arm candy.

Yeah but there's usually a pool boy lurking around somewhere.

If Woody gets his way...what species would they be...woolards or perhaps mallucks ....?

kamalyn on February 8, 2010

:D Ha-ha, Jim - You'd get a Daffy Duck ! ;)

And actually, the male hybrids are handsome little things. Here is a photo of one on Flickr
