The stone arched section you see here is probably 17th or 18th century and is absolutely original. The dry stone arch took the full weight of the 10 tonne swing shovel during the works, if you study it the arch closely you will see that one stone has been pushed down by about 3 inches, but it is still impressive how strong this arch remains. PS don't worry about the arch or timber section collapsing, they are both overcapped with reinforced concrete.
