Greetings Daniel, Nice photo with rich colors. Very nice details on the ring from the other Marble (I think it may be Colorado Marble). I don't remember the story as to why they changed, then changed back during construction. Do you remember? Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Rich

The monument was begun before the Civil War. The marble came from a mine in Hunt Valley, MD. Construction was halted during the war and was completed after. But the marble from the same mine was not from exactly the same layer and therefore was slightly different in color. Great shot! Thanks for you nice comments.

Thank you John. Thank you Inessa. The weather that day was changinng every 30 seconds. It was extremely aggravating taking pictures on that day. It would go from sunny and hot to cloudy, windy and grey.

Yeah, weather changes are normal in D.C during certain times of the year. You did a great job with this picture. I love the inclusion of the flag in the shot. I think that's what everyone is saying about "rich colors," meaning the contrast between the pale white of the monument and gray sky against the bright colors of the flag.

Impressive.

Saw this for the first time just January 28th. Beautiful, and even from the top you can see the whole city which is even more awesome. :) Great colors, fantastic wave of the flag. 100% a favorite of mine!

Great photo. Absolutely one of my favorites. This photo is on my list to emulate when I go back to D.C.

The colors afforded by the slightly clouded day are amazing. GREAT PIC now marked as a favorite.
