These are wild raccoon that live in the deep dark woodlands around my home. As I was hoping for a visit, expecting them to pass by at mid-afternoon. I sat quietly and waited in a shady area on that very hot summer day, hoping the light would be just right for the camera, hoping to use it for a painting. I was hoping to take a good picture that would have a good composition.
They came, my camera clicked many times. The animals drank water from a birdbath and ate some birdseed. Instead of leaving, they sat down near me and stayed a while! It was near the beginning of my study of these intelligent wild animals.
Their mouths were open because it was so hot, they were panting to cool off. They moved slowly that day.
The one in the front is actually smiling. She is a happy and social animal. She is the youngest. The one in the middle is her mom, I think. The back one is the oldest, probably the mother and grandmother of the group. She is bossy ... impressive and very commanding.
