Hello Bulbas,

The major catchment area upstream of here includes the very populous Province of Sichuan, which traditionally is known as the Red Basin because of the red sandstone soils. This is the major source of sediment in the Yangtze River.

The density of the buildings is very typical of rural China even here in this mountainous area. Associated with the urban density is the intensity of land use in the rural areas, and here it is quite spectacular all the way up the steep slopes.

Thanks for your thoughts, Bulbas.

I am very pleased that this photo has been valued by you, f and perhaps by others who have lived in Badong. For me it was a great privilege to travel on the Yangtze and also to visit Badong. I remember it well.
