Great picture Marilyn. It works so well, especially since you kept some if the arc on the left and bits of a rougher wall on the right. Gives it a lot of atmosphere and texture.

Thanks for visiting Malta with me, Roger. And I hope someday to see photos of when you go back in person. You'll get some wonderful pictures, I'm sure.

Hi Marilyn :) I'm not a particular good travel photographer. My pictures are pretty much typical holiday snapshots with no ooompfs. It's an aspect of travelling I'd like to develope though :)

The first prod I had toward better travel photography came when I was only 21, traveling with a group by bicycle (and public transit) in northern Europe. (The trip included my first visit to Norway.) I assumed without thinking that the purpose of photography was to record "everything." But sometimes when I raised my camera to my eye, one fellow in our group (younger than I but more sophisticated) would say disdainfully, "You're not going to take a picture of that, are you?" Always the subject was something I felt I ought to record--because it was "important," or because of pleasant associations, etc., and always it was something that (under the conditions of that moment) would make a dreadful picture!
I was certainly not instantly transformed by his attitude! I've taken a huge number of "I was there" picture in the almost 50 years since then! But looking back, I think it started me, however tentatively, on a journey of deciding what photographs I want to take, and why. And with each new trip, I find myself even less likely to make a record, and more likely to try to "find the picture" in whatever I see.
Sorry this got so long, Roger! It probably did because I'm still busy sorting this out!

Please don't appologize :) I like to share thoughts and feelings of photography, and especially to hear what others have to say. That is not done in one sentence :) So I appreciate what you said. Of course I learn a lot from looking through your and others galleries regarding arrangements, composition, use of light n' such, but talking about the feel of photography probably tells me more. Looking back I pretty much experienced the same thing. I was recording. I guess I was happy and wanted to record that by putting everything on film. maybe :) And for the record, I'm still sorting this out myself. That's one of the fun parts about this hobby I think :) I guess for every picture I have uploaded I have a hundred not worth while mounting on the wall in my darkest closet ;-) I'd be totally broke if it had not been for digital medium.
