This cactus had the most amazing blue spikes. I had never seen such a glorious color on a cactus before. Way cool. If anyone happens to know the name of this cactus, please let me know. Thanks, Sharon
Hi Sharon. I thought this was a montage. Beautiful capture!
Sharon, that's beautiful. Where did you see it? At first I thought you must be experimenting with some photo editing. That's an amazing cactus, and a fantastic picture of it. Oh, the spines remind me of a barrel cactus (except for the color, of course).
Silly me. I asked you where you saw it, and there's a map right next to it! I may have to go look at that cactus in person some time.
I haven't been able to find any other pictures of a barrel cactus with blue spines. This is one-of-a-kind.
Thank you Alek. It was a very unusual color. Sharon
Hi Art. There is no way in the world I found the only blue-spined cactus. You should go over to the range and find it. Maybe you can name it for prosperity. I thought it was so pretty and I am a little worried because they are making a road at the range and they have ruined so many of the cactus I look for each year when I go over. We usually go in Nov and Feb. Maybe you should dig it up to save it. I can point you the way. Sharon
Thanks for the Y* Itallica. Have a great rest of the weekend. Sharon
Thank you Ralph for your extremely nice comment. Greetings to you also from Southern California. Sharon
Voted, BO STIG...=)
Thank you Stig for the BO. It means a lit that someone likes my photo. I am off to your gallery to see your work. Thanks again, Sharon
Hello Sharon, it certainly is one of the family of Ferocactus (or Barrel cactus, as you call them), but this familly has so many species that it is very difficult to say to which it belongs... And the blue colour - I think you were lucky to find it in a very special period of its life - perhaps next time, it will have red or brown spines again.
Anyway, it is a wonderful picture and I add it to my favorites.
Extraordinary shot Sharon. Quite some colour, and an impressive HDR. I like.
