Dear Ian, I love your photos of people. The lady with her bent back, picking carefully the peppers, with which she will spice the meal, she has cooked so many times for her family - a life long. Her hands telling of her hard work, her worn off shoes, telling, that she only gets something for herself, when her family has got, what they need. A story of a woman's life with scarcely the basic needs, yet not in misery, since she has someone to care for. What a contrast to our sumptuous world, so much for us to learn! I am grateful for those documentary photos.
In your photos, it all seems to be so natural, as if you were part of them and when I listen to the photos, I recognize that you actually are, the people considering you as a dear friend. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, the secret of a deep understanding of love and compassion talk to us through your photos, thank you, my friend!
Thank you, May. The respect that we share is mutual, precious friend. I appreciate you generosity and grace, your compassion and your passions, your competencies and your wisdom. And all this is on top of the love you have for the landscapes of 'home' and 'away' that you share with us so masterfully and beautifully.
And in some wee crevice in all of the above, there is the preciousness of the occasion I was able to take you to Fraser Island though one image of golden water in a shallow pristine lake. You share majesty and received serendipity.
And better still is the mutual sensitivity that we have for people that allows us to 'communicate compassion' whether it is through an image of a large Swiss farmhouse or of a Chinese street market.
Thank you for your appreciative approach to life and relationships.
Thank you for your kind response and for the information on hot peppers and the many traditional medicinal uses for them. My journeys in both Hunan and Sichuan are most memorable. It was a special time in my life to be there and to meet many people.
Warm regards from Australia,
