The thing that attracted me to this was the age and obvious service that this tie-up point has given. (It's looking down over the edge of a quay - you can just see into the water and the barnacles below the surface). The texture of the wood, the rusty staple and the granite quay edge was enhanced by the late evening sun and also drew me to this capture.

Wonderful portfolio! I especially like the "pattern" and the "texture" shots. In this one there's not only the texture but the strong composition. It's taken by a master of monochrome, but I think the bit of colour adds to it.
