Nick Todaro on March 1, 2010

Seaford To Cuckmere Haven and Beyond

From Seaford Head to Cuckmere is a very easy and pleasant walk made up mainly of gentle rolling hills until you arrive at Cuckmere Haven down onto a large pebbly beach... At that point you turn northwards walking inland alongside Cuckmere River also known as the snake river, until you reach the main road... From there you enter the Seven Sisters Country Park where you will find several routes, they're not hugely different they all end up taking you to the cliffs one way or another... There are nature trails that are less direct and longer. You can take the long trail by going off the beaten track along the hilly route, or go along a track straight to the cliffs... We often choose the second option, on the way down at least. The area is very hilly, and if you want to go up the cliffs be ready for some steep ups and downs. Its about a 20 minute walk up to the cliffs, once you get to the top you are rewarded with a marvelous view of the chalky coastline stretching for miles. Note, there are no fences to stop you getting too close to the edge. The cliffs are magnificent and iconic. The sea on certain days varies from turquoise to emerald green. The whole area is a great photo opportunity ... Sometimes we walk all the way to Beachy Head but not usually, at least not on the same day... This is a great walk on any day but it is just superb on a clear calm day.
