Boise has a number of really pretty buildings downtown. They've torn a few of them down in the name of "downtown renovation", to make room for much prettier (gut-wrenchingly ugly) ones, so I thought I might at least show a few of the nice ones remaining.

I'm going to have to quit editing my stuff with my laptop. The glare off the screen makes it impossible to get an accurate look at the colors. The first three that I put up from this trip were done with it, and I'm not satisfied with how they came out at all, now that I see them on my home computer screen.

I've made the same mistake with a few of my photos in the past.

I'm sure glad that you took the opportunity to show us this. I think that's what is so great about panoramio, to preserve some of these great relics. I think it's kind of sad that some great structures have been lost in the name of progress.

Well, I guess we live and learn, eh, Spence. I got these few from a bit less than an hour's wander around, and there were plenty of others to be had. I wonder why a few of the Boise Pano kin don't bestir themselves to get some of these. Well, I guess I do. How much time do I spend in downtown SLC getting the neat ones close to me? Well, thanks for the visit, anyway.

Don't you have 'listed buildings', like we have in Europe? Buildings of historic importance are put on a list, and you are not allowed to alter the outside or tear down the building when it's on the list. If you own a listed building, it limits the rights of the owner, but the costs of maintaining the building are partly payed by the government.

Oh, there are lists, Norrel. I'm a rather funny bird when it comes to this whole historical preservation idea. If a building owner wants to do it on his own, I think the government ought to leave him alone, but I don't like it being forced by others. Private property has value and meaning, but that's my view. In the US, the government tells the owner what he can and can't do with a historically significant or listed structure, but the owner has to foot most of the bills himself.

I think you do great at capturing downtown SLC. I have far less than you, but I have hopes of getting more soon.
